Here is my wife Wendy, a healthy cancer survivor in her dream job at CAShh coordinating free drives for cancer patients to their appointments.
On her 50th birthday she rolled over in bed and felt a sharp bump under her breast which we learned was an aggressive herp-2 cancer. Two wishes, that's all she asked for; to live, and to be able to help other cancer patients. They threw everything at her; surgery, chemo (she overdosed), the torture of daily radiation treatment over thirty days, on top of a shingles episode afterwards. She has a glowing, cheerful personality with a sense of optimism that was fundamental to her survival through treatment. As the caregiver with two young boys, job commitments, and a wife who slept around the clock...at times it felt like I was a single parent. We never talk about caregivers but they play a most important role and take on new levels of selfless assistance and responsibilities that few discuss, nor share.
